let's move to the beat like we know that it's over

Can't believe my beautiful baby boy will be three weeks old tomorrow! Seems like he just got here. :)

Here he is at two weeks:

And here we are on Saturday, waiting for Jeremy's car to have its oil changed:

He hasn't had any formula since those first couple of days, but we're still having trouble nursing so for now i'm pumping and he's being bottle-fed. The nice thing is that his daddy can feed him too, but it will be so much easier when we can get nursing all straightened out! Other than that, he seems to be doing great. He's got his next checkup on the 28th.

I really can't express how much love overflows from me for this little person. He is so awesome, he has such a great personality and is so hilarious and sweet and fun. It's been super hard at times but i wouldn't trade this experience for anything. I love my family with all my heart.

Tristan James made his way into the world on June 23, 2009 at 1:58 p.m. He was 9 pounds 2 ounces and 22 inches long. He is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life.

I would like to shake the hand of the inventor of the ice cream sammich. Honorable mention to the inventor of the ice cream bar.

The Wonderful World of Pregnancy Ankle and Foot Swelling, is - surprise!- not so wonderful. Who knew? Never before have i looked down and wondered whose feet were on the ends of my legs.

My belly button is getting weird. I've been fiendishly denying that it could ever pop out because it's so deep, but i may be treated to a rude awakening before this kid arrives. I don't waaaaaaant it to pop out, that's so gross, but then again I didn't waaaaaaant to throw up for 16 weeks straight either and look where that got me.

Dooce.com is awesome. Beware: if you do not like swear words or extensive (though jocular) heresy or sarcasm or poop stories, don't click. I've been working my way through the archives for quite a while and i'll be sad when i get to the end and have to wait for updates.

This weekend we're sending off a funny, kind, capable girl to start her life in the Real Adult World all the way on the other side of the country. She started out as my employee and ended up as a good friend. I'll miss you, Caitlyn.

We have a preponderance of ice cream trucks in our neighborhood. There's one that comes by very regularly. It plays the ice-cream-truck version of Oh Susanna, only it's sort of digital sounding, interspersed with fake claps and what i can only assume is supposed to be a cheer or a siren sound? Problem is, the cheer/siren/whatever sounds exactly like a dinosaur roar straight from Jurassic Park.

So it goes a little something like this, words added so you know which part of the song i'm talking about:

I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee [clap clap]
I'm going to Louisiana, my true love for to see [graAAAAAEEEEAAAAAAaaaar]

I call it the Pterodactyl Truck. If i were a kid, there's NO WAY i'd be heading out of the house when i heard that thing!

These are from the 23rd. Nugget is measuring almost a week ahead at this point; i'm hoping it's just a long baby and not a big ol' porker of a child. :P

Baby is 7.48 cm crown to rump!

Baby is comfy! The ultrasound tech had to poke and prod mightily to get the nugget to roll into the proper nuchal-fold-measuring position.

if you enjoy not having a tummyache, DO NOT absentmindedly eat a large quantity of creme de menthe Altoids in one sitting.

this public service announcement is brought to you by the letter :(.

this so aptly describes how i feel about my husband:

i'm so wrapped up in him, i don't know which of us is which sometimes. his skin is so familiar, it's almost like it's my own.

love is an interesting thing. i don't want it to be too comfortable, i don't want to be thoughtless of this gift - i want to remember its strangeness and newness and to cherish it in actions and words.

don't be careless of your loved ones. make sure they know how you feel. remember why you love them and remind them why you love them.

Broken Image Photography was on hand last Friday night taking photos of the live performances, so here's a huge quantity of pix for your perusal. i'm astonished by how fat i've gotten! seriously, i knew i'd put on a ton of weight but it's really depressing seeing it all hanging off my limbs and pudging up my face. sigh.

i LOVE this picture! here's what's happening right now:

love songs kept close to my heart
like pretty lies they start
to creep inside and devour my mind
love songs kept close to my heart

i'll cut the rest to spare you all )

rugs
so, overstock.com has the best deals on rugs of anyplace i've found thus far. there are two between which i'm debating and i can't for the life of me decide!

here's one that's more traditional, but more scrolly than flowery and not nearly as busy as most Turkish rug designs, with the added bonus of no brown or orange in the design: clicky

then there's this one, which is a bit cheaper and has purple in it, but is a lot more modern in design (and i can't quite tell what the colors are, exactly - is that plum and brown? eggplant and olive? it only says 'earth tones' in the description): clicky again

the tile looks a heck of a lot more contemporary than our old taupe carpet, so suddenly my pretty black-with-red-antiquing scrolly china cabinet (the red rubbed antiquing is much more visible in person) looks a bit out of place. i'm concerned that adding a modern rug would only serve to make it look worse and that i'd end up buying a new china cabinet in the end. i'd like to avoid this since we've already earmarked all extra money for new bedroom furniture (desperately need to replace our current fake wood veneer hand-me-down dresser and nightstands, even if just with cheap IKEA things).

however, i can't decide if getting the more traditional rug would only serve to add one more thing to the room that would look out of place, or if it would tie things together. my style is "dark, classy eclectic:" i have Chinese and Japanese-inspired decor, along with frilly old-fashioned touches like the china cabinet and ornate silverplate boxes, antique-looking bits and pieces like skeleton key and lock-plate shadowboxes, dark-themed pieces of my own artwork, and standard spooky things like an eggplant velvet couch and black-and-purple drapery.

i believe i can only return those rugs to Overstock if they're unopened, so i don't want to order and then be stuck with something i don't like; how can you tell if a rug is suitable for your room without opening it?

sigh.
